I got a few questions about registering your music so I decided to research a little and share it with you and other artists.
If you are already making some decent money from your music via tunecore/distrokid etc. thats dope but you could also be leaving some money on the table if your music is being used or sold somewhere else. For example maybe your song was used in a youtube comercial, tv show or maybe it was played in a busy restaurant. If you do have your music being placed outside of spotify/apple etc then you should also make sure you are signed up with a PRO like ASCAP/BMI & also Sound Exchange. Maybe you don't have to worry about it now but once you start getting some more traction definitely sign up with these orgs.
Also you can register you music with the government but it really isnt necessary. Technically once you create the music you are legally the copyright holder. You can register it if it makes you feel more comfortable but you don't really need to. The recording academy briefly talked about this topic: You can check out our post on it here
